There doesn't seem to be a way to lower the game volume. Pressing the volume buttons only changes the ringer volume.

I'd also like this feature - it has been discussed many times - there isn't a way to currently do this in this version. All we can do is hope for the best in later versions.
So basically it's not possible. Although you could turn the sound off in settings.
